“Focus on the user and all else will follow.”

This is a mantra that Google follows by when they guide into principle and practice. It’s something they deeply focus on when they consider their design decisions when it comes to their products, devices, and any other creations that involve the design process. When going into a design process, there is a lot of process’ that may need to be considered, and one of those things are including considering those who you are designing for. Google gears a lot of their brand towards the consumers they are designing for.

When it comes to their products and devices, their consumers are number one priority when providing the simplest interfaces. If ever taking a look at a google device or interface, one thing that can be noticed is how easy it is to use. Google gears towards simplifying the interface and improving each generation of device’s or updates of platforms to make it ease for everyday use. Such as an example would be the Google Pixel 4. Some of the things the pixel 4 can do is voice recognition to use the quick search voice activated “Ok Google” to search hands-off. As well, the implemented things like face recognition for a quick unlock of the phone to make things just a little bit simpler in use. One final mention would be their new add-on, which is the motion sensor to quick swipe between music, snooze alarms or hush ringtones as explained in the link above.

Making Life Easy

Google gears a lot of their design process towards focusing on how to make things easier. They take steps based on their old products and design process’ to constantly improve further for their next design. On top of that, they are always willing in keeping an open mind and an open ear when it comes to the future of design. That includes being willing to hear from other voices all around the world, from both those they are designing for, and those that want to get involved.

Google has come to make life easy for a lot of people, from the Google.com search engine, to everything since as they expanded. From devices like their mobile phones, bringing their products to the touch of a button, and even providing more devices such as google earbuds to make life all the more simple. Life is just so much simpler when you have the world (the internet) at the tips of your fingers.

The Take Away

From taking a look at Google and some of their designs and background, I’d say there is much to learn in the process of design from them. Google has done a lot in the short time they have been around, and are ever expanding. They learn from what they do, to improve and continue to make their designs better. Learning the process of design has a lot of steps, but one thing I think Google has down pact to teach is to pay attention to the user. Design revolves around the one you are designing for.
